Work experience: Kate's view

We recently provided work experience placements to two local students. Here, Kate Anderson tells us what she learned and liked most about the week...

Why did you choose Nice Network? What made the company stand out?

I chose Nice Network because my Mam recommended it to me as she knew somebody who worked here, they were able to give me and my friend a placement, so we thought it would be a good idea to come here.

What did you enjoy most about your experience?

Learning new skills, such as how to approach and talk to customers and learning how each department do different things.

What tasks did you undertake as part of your placement?

Learnt how to deal with customers and how to speak to them, learnt how to prepare a presentation and learnt new skills in IT.

Have you developed any new skills?

I’ve learnt how to speak to customers and know what and what not to say to them, I’ve also become more confident in a working environment.

What lessons have you taken away from the experience?

How to approach customers and keep them happy.

Did anything about the office environment surprise you? Or was it as you expected?

I was surprised by how nice everyone was, they were a lot more welcoming than I thought.

Has the placement made you think differently about working in a corporate environment?

Yes, I thought everyone would be silent and serious, but it took to my surprise that they all worked and got everything done but still talked and laughed with each other.

Finally, if you could give one bit of advice to someone about to go on their first works experience placement, what would it be?

Don’t be nervous as it won’t be as scary when you get there!
